Federal Financial Aid

In Canada, individuals with type 1 diabetes may be eligible for several federal benefits and tax credits designed to help offset the costs associated with managing diabetes.

    In addition to federal benefits, most provinces and territories have programs that may offer financial assistance, coverage for medical supplies, or other support for people with diabetes.

    A non-refundable tax credit that helps reduce the amount of income tax.

    Type 1 diabetes, due to the intensive daily management required, generally qualifies for the DTC under the "life-sustaining therapy" category.

  • Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP)

    A long-term savings plan (tax deffered) designed to help Canadians with disabilities and their families save for the future.

    Canada Disability Savings Grant (CDSG)

Deductible Instalment Payment Program for Pharmacare is an option for eligible Manitobans to pay their annual
Pharmacare deductible in monthly instalments.

Advanced Glucose Monitoring

Manitoba Pharmacare has extended coverage for advanced glucose monitors (AGMs) to all adults with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes who meet the established criteria.

Adult Insulin Pump

Manitoba Health has expanded coverage for insulin pumps to eligible Manitobans with Type 1 Diabetes who are 18 years of age or older.

Children and youth under the age of 18 will be universally covered when medical eligibility is met.

Over the age of 18?

Medically eligible applicants over the age of 18 can apply for financial assistance through the income testing process.

  • One insulin pump every five (5) years.
  • Insulin pumps supplies including infusion sets, cartridge/reservoirs and pods.

Continuous Glucose Monitoring Program covers CGMs for people with type 1 diabetes and gestational diabetes.

Nova Scotia

⚪ Sensor-based Glucose Monitoring Program

The Sensor-based Glucose Monitoring Program is open to Nova Scotians with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes who meet specific criteria, including needing multiple daily injections of insulin.

The program is income-based, with no deductible for people with an annual household income less than $60,000. People with a household income between $60,000 and $150,000 pay a deductible between $500 and $1,000.

The Insulin Pump Program helps pay for an insulin pump and supplies. Types of insulin pumps covered include Tandem, Medtronic and Insulet (Omnipod).

The program is income based and has an annual copayment amount based on family size. The copayment is the amount you may need to pay. There are no premiums or deductibles.
